Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Consultant (part-time)

AIChE is a professional society of more than 60,000 chemical engineers in 110 countries. Its members work in corporations, universities and government, using their knowledge of chemical processes to develop safe and useful products for the benefit of society. Through its varied programs, AIChE continues to be a focal point for information exchange on the frontiers of chemical engineering research in energy, sustainability, biological and environmental engineering, nanotechnology, and chemical plant safety and security.

 

Position Summary:

Consulting with the Institute for 20-30 hours per week, this subject matter expert (SME) will develop AIChEís diversity & inclusion program to promote and sustain equity, diversity and inclusion for Chemical Engineers, as well as build collaborations with other organizations and engineering disciplines within this area. The ED&I Consultant will help to deliver and further develop AIChE's diversity & inclusion vision and initiatives for the organization and build on current corporate and individual fundraising.

This work, in partnership with multiple constituencies, will link program development, communication, research and fundraising through various volunteer groups within the Institute, as well as other corporate, academic and association partners. A key component of the role will be to create and/or edit content being delivered by programming groups i.e.: the Women in Chemical Engineering(WIC), Minority Affairs Committee (MAC), LGBTQ+, Disabilities Outreach Community and K-12 in order to ensure smooth program deliverables. position will also assist with the organization of awards, focused programming and networking events during conferences and fundraising events to increase the visibility of these initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Continue to deliver on current ED&I long-term vision including the overall business plan
  • Assess current Association programs and populations regarding diversity & inclusion issues and use those assessments to propose and develop new initiatives or adjustments to current initiatives
  • Benchmark current programs against other related non-profits
  • Build content decks and increase exposure across ethnical and racial lines
  • Look for program gaps based on current trends
  • Successfully work with a wide variety of constituents to ensure continued delivery of program vision
  • Work with fundraising teams to maintain current funding streams and to expand portfolio
  • Ensure current programs are running efficiently and organize efforts at AIChE events

  • Providing exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience in multiple communication modalities, including social media, and presentation media
  • Designing and administering corporate diversity programs
  • Enhancing multicultural knowledge for the Chemical Engineering communities
  • Partnering with other non-profit organizations, academic institutions and corporations
  • Presenting and leading diversity programs to varying audience levels
  • Articulating a command of the issues and dynamics of differences to potential funders and program participants

Education/Experience:
