Web Production and Communication Intern

Department: Comm & Online Content Temp
Location: New York, NY

AIChE founded in 1908, is a professional society of more than 60,000 chemical engineers in 110 countries. Its members work in corporations, universities, and government, using their knowledge of chemical processes to develop safe and useful products for the benefit of society. AIChE fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge, supports the professional and personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its members to address societal needs and improve the quality of life. Through its varied programs, AIChE continues to be a focal point for information exchange on the frontiers of chemical engineering research in such areas as energy, sustainability, biological and environmental engineering, nanotechnology, and chemical plant safety and security.

The AIChE Web Operations and Communications Department is responsible for ensuring an optimal user experience for website visitors and sharing stories about our profession in the form of blog posts, press releases, landing pages, and social media. We are seeking an intern to support our department through March of 2021, with potential for an extension. Through this internship, you’ll enable us to deliver a better web experience to our site visitors and learn more about online publishing and web production.


  • Edit, create, and produce content for AIChE’s websites using the Drupal content management system
  • Improve site performance and usability by finding and repairing broken site links
  • Improve internal and external site search by helping with keyword analysis and editing content to boost search with keywords
  • Assist in the production of blog posts and other web page content using the Drupal content management system
  • Assist in optimizing content on our YouTube channel
  • Assist with the reporting of web and social analytics

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working with online software, content management systems, photo editing
  • Strong attention to details
  • Creative problem solver
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • People skills: Must be comfortable communicating with volunteers and others in the organization

Software and Proficiency:

  • Strong MS Office skills: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Prior experience with HTML, CSS, Drupal, Google Analytics, SEO, and social media management tools a plus

Educational Requirements:

  • Background or basic studies in web design, journalism, public relations, English, or Chemical Engineering
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree (preferred)
